DCN Milan 2026 – Panel “Skills for Scalability”

Data Center Nation Milan 2026 concluded yesterday, once again confirming itself as a key event for discussion on the future of digital infrastructure in Italy.

Techbau S.p.A. promoted the panel “Skills for Scalability: Training Today’s Professionals to Build Tomorrow’s Data Centers,” dedicated to a topic central to the sector’s growth: the development of the skills needed to design, build, and manage data centers that are increasingly complex, sustainable, and high-performing.

The panel featured the participation of Sen. Maria Alessandra Gallone, President of the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA); Andrea Campioli, architect and Dean of the AUIC School at Politecnico di Milano; Carlotta Matteja, President of the Education Technical Committee of IDA; and Andrea Marchiori, CEO of Techbau S.p.A.

The debate was moderated by Andrea Giambruno, journalist.

The discussion highlighted the need to strengthen dialogue among businesses, institutions, universities, and industry associations, in order to support market growth with adequate skills, targeted training pathways, and a shared vision for the development of digital infrastructure.

Among the topics addressed, particular attention was given to the evolution of the skills required across the supply chain, with a focus on integrating technical training, innovation, and sustainability. The debate also explored the role of university and professional education in preparing individuals capable of meeting the challenges related to energy efficiency, the responsible management of resources, and the design of infrastructure increasingly integrated into the surrounding territory.

This perspective frames the collaboration between Techbau and Politecnico di Milano, now in its second year with the Honours Programme “Datascapes: Logistics, Design, Innovation,” a pathway dedicated to training new professionals called upon to engage with the design of tomorrow’s digital infrastructure.

During the panel, Andrea Marchiori, CEO of Techbau S.p.A., also emphasized the intention to make this collaboration ongoing over time, contributing to the growth of specialized skills for the sector and fostering an increasingly structured relationship between university education and the world of work.

The panel also focused on the central role of sustainability in data center development, with particular reference to the regeneration of brownfield areas. For Techbau, this is already a concrete reality, with six data center projects currently under construction on previously urbanized or disused land, in line with a development model oriented toward reusing existing assets and reducing land consumption.

We renew our thanks to the panel participants for their contribution to a valuable discussion. Dialogue among businesses, institutions, universities, and industry associations is an essential lever for generating new opportunities and building concrete collaborations for the future.
